World Sickle Cell Day: Supporting the Silent Warriors
Every year on June 19th, we mark World Sickle Cell Day – a day to recognize the struggles of those living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and to raise awareness about this severe and sometimes debilitating condition. For many individuals with SCD, their stories often go untold. Their pain, silent. Their challenges, unseen.
For those unfamiliar, Sickle Cell Disease is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders. The condition affects millions of people worldwide and is particularly common among those with African, Spanish, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Asian ancestry.
People with SCD often suffer from episodes of pain called “pain crises,” which can be severe and last for hours to days. The pain can affect any part of the body and varies in intensity, sometimes requiring hospital stays.
At Pain Relief International, our mission is to alleviate pain for all, irrespective of the underlying cause. We believe that everyone deserves a life free from chronic pain, especially those battling conditions like SCD.
